One Device Satan Uses

Ephesians 4:27: Neither give place to the devil.

2 Corinthians 2:10: To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; 11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

One of the troubling devices Satan has used to prevent my ministry or make it more difficult is this: When I have shared the gospel with someone and they have told me that they have already received Christ but there is no evidence of that, how can I share the gospel with them again? If I do share with them again, it is rather like implying that I believe they are liars. They appear to be liars but I should not tell them that they are. And they may not know that they are. It appears that they have not received the Jesus of the Bible who changes our personalities and our lives.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

We all get fooled sometimes. We sometimes believe someone is saved who is not and we believe someone is lost who is not. We cannot look upon their hearts. The daughter of J. Vernon McGee was troubled when He would ask her often: Are you sure you are saved? His response was a loving one. He said to her I just want to be sure. He proved he loved her in many other ways. We can lovingly tell people that we just want to be sure. There are also a couple other important and helpful things we can and should do for them. We should continue to love them. We should pray for them and we should show them by our conversation (life-style) how a Christian is different. If we can convince them that we love them we may get more opportunities to ask them if they are sure they are saved. It is difficult to know the difference between an unsaved person and a believer who is not living for the Lord and does not want to. Ultimately, it is God who must draw them to Christ.

John 6:44: No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Matthew 5:16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

John 12:32: And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

1 Peter 2:12: Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

And whenever possible we should quote scripture to them.

Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
